App Store Screenshot Sizes 2026: iPhone, iPad and Google Play

The exact screenshot sizes App Store Connect and Google Play accept in 2026, which ones are actually required, and how to turn simulator captures into them for free.

App Store Connect rejects a screenshot that is a single pixel off, and the list of sizes has grown to more than twenty. The good news is that you only need one or two of them. Here are the sizes that matter in 2026, what Google Play wants, and how to get your simulator captures into the right shape without opening a design tool.

What you actually need for the App Store

DevicePortrait size (px)Status
iPhone 6.9″1320 × 2868, 1290 × 2796 or 1260 × 2736Required for iPhone apps
iPhone 6.5″1284 × 2778 or 1242 × 2688Only if you skip 6.9″
iPhone 6.3″1206 × 2622 or 1179 × 2556Optional
iPhone 5.5″1242 × 2208Optional
iPad 13″2064 × 2752 or 2048 × 2732Required if the app runs on iPad
Mac2880 × 1800 (16:10)Required for Mac apps

Landscape is the same numbers swapped. Each set takes one to ten images in PNG or JPEG.

The key rule: upload one 6.9″ set and Apple scales it down for every smaller iPhone, and one 13″ set covers every iPad. You only upload a smaller size when you want a device-specific screenshot — for example, a layout that looks different on a small phone.

What Google Play wants

Google Play is looser:

  • Phone screenshots: two to eight, PNG or JPEG, each side between 320 and 3840 px, and the long side no more than twice the short side. 1080 × 1920 (9:16) is the usual choice.
  • Tablet screenshots: same rules; 1200 × 1920 for 7″ and 1600 × 2560 for 10″ are common.
  • Feature graphic: exactly 1024 × 500, shown at the top of your listing and in some promotional slots.

Which simulator to capture on

Capture on the device whose size you need and there is nothing to resize:

  • iPhone 16 Pro Max / 17 Pro Max simulators capture at 1320 × 2868 — the 6.9″ size.
  • iPad Pro 13-inch (M4) captures at 2064 × 2752 — the 13″ size.

Press Cmd+S in the Simulator to save a screenshot to the desktop. If you captured on a different device, the next section fixes it.

Resizing captures to an exact size

The store screenshot resizer takes any captures, a target from the list above and one of two modes:

  • Fill and crop scales until the frame is covered and trims the overflow evenly. Use it when the shapes are close — every modern iPhone is within about a percent of the 6.9″ shape, so an iPhone 16 capture loses a sliver nobody will notice.
  • Fit and pad scales until the whole capture is visible and fills the rest with a colour you choose. Use it for a different shape: a phone capture into an iPad frame, or portrait into the landscape feature graphic.

Each file is drawn onto an opaque background, so the PNG carries no alpha channel — one of the most common reasons App Store Connect refuses an upload. It warns when the shapes differ enough to crop visibly, and when a capture is being enlarged. Everything runs in the browser and downloads as a zip named by size.

Common rejection reasons

  • "The dimensions of one or more screenshots are wrong." The size is not on Apple's list, even by a few pixels, or it is landscape in a portrait slot. Resize to an exact size.
  • Alpha channel. Screenshots exported from design tools often keep transparency. Flatten them onto a background, or export JPEG.
  • Wrong set. A 6.5″ image uploaded into the 6.9″ slot. Check the device tab in App Store Connect before dragging files in.

FAQ

Do I need screenshots for every iPhone size?

No. Upload a 6.9″ set (1320 × 2868) and App Store Connect scales it for all smaller iPhones. Add other sizes only for device-specific screenshots.

What is the iPhone 16 Pro Max screenshot size?

1320 × 2868 pixels in portrait — exactly the App Store's 6.9″ size.

Can App Store screenshots be JPEG?

Yes. App Store Connect accepts .jpg, .jpeg and .png. JPEG has no alpha channel, so it sidesteps that rejection entirely.

What size is the Google Play feature graphic?

1024 × 500 pixels, PNG or JPEG. It is a preset in the resizer, with Fit and pad for artwork of a different shape.

What about the app icon?

That is a separate asset: a single 1024 × 1024 PNG with no transparency for the App Store, 512 × 512 for Google Play. The app icon generator makes all of them from one image.
